Thank you all for an outstanding first week of school. Your commitment to your student’s success has been incredible. We would like to make the community aware of a couple adjustments we are making to our entry procedures for arrival in the mornings to Ford. Previously, children have crossed at the Northern entryway to our parking lot, and in the past, we have posted a staff member at the Northside parking lot to act as a crossing guard for students and families attempting to cross Clermont Drive. After assessing the safety of this crossing station, however, we have determined that without other crossing safety features (such as a stop sign, a flashing crossing sign, or an actual painted city crosswalk), this is just an unsafe procedure for both students and staff alike. As such, we are asking all families to please either cross the street prior to entering the Ford lot from the East Side of street or to please walk down to our South crosswalk area to enter the Ford parking lot and school grounds.

We recognize this is a change and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience this causes for families. At Ford Elementary we strive to maintain the highest standards for safety and security for each and every child. We have also changed our back entryway procedures by placing an extra crossing guard to our East entrance gate, and we will be locking that exterior gate from the outside between the hours of 7:45 AM and 2:30 PM to further secure our students and staff during the school day. On Wednesdays only, the gate will be locked at 8:45 AM to account for the late start. Please see the map below to identify the two locations we are speaking of; they are currently identified as Northside Entrance, and Eastside Walking Entrance. If you have any questions about these adjustments to our entry and exit procedures, I am happy to field any and all wonderings by email or phone call.
